A guide to help you understand the ins and outs of business in Utah

Overview

Utah is located in the Mountain West region of the United States. Salt Lake City is both the capital and the largest city. Utah is the 13th largest state by area and remains the 30th most populous state with 3.54 million people. Utah's 2025 GDP was $315,973,200,000.

Utah's top industries are aerospace and defense, IT and software, life sciences, energy, outdoor recreation, and financial services. Utah's tech sector, centered in the Salt Lake City area (known as Silicon Slopes), has been one of the fastest-growing in the nation. The state is also known for its outdoor recreation industry and proximity to world-class ski resorts.

Utah’s trade and investment relationship with Qatar is actively propelled by World Trade Center Utah, which organizes high-level diplomatic trade missions to position local industries for Qatari capital. Inbound delegations featuring the Qatar Investment Authority and the Qatar Financial Center specifically focus on matching Qatari sovereign wealth with Utah's booming tech, commercial real estate, and clean energy sectors. Furthermore, the University of Utah maintains a distinct cultural footprint in Doha through a formalized partnership with the Qatar Debate Center, expanding the state’s regional connection into higher education and cross-cultural exchange pipelines.

Utah has a flat corporate income tax rate of 4.45%. Utah has one foreign trade zone centered in Salt Lake City—which has recently transitioned to allow eligible service areas to expand across a broad network of northern Utah counties—and offers incentive programs including the Economic Development Tax Increment Financing (EDTIF) program and the Industrial Assistance Fund.
