Katara Hospitality
Overview
The genesis of Katara Hospitality can be traced back to 1970 when the Government of Qatar established Qatar National Hotels (QNH) to manage the Sheraton Gulf Hotel, now the Doha Marriott Hotel. The year 1982 marked the opening of the first internationally branded property bringing the iconic Sheraton Grand Doha to the country. Then in 1993, an Amiri decree identified significant growth potential for Qatar’s tourism industry, and a new entity, QNH, took over the assets of the previous company.
Since 2003, Katara Hospitality has evolved into a highly profitable owner, developer, and operator with ambitious plans for Qatar and other regions throughout the world.
Using their experience and scale, they have continued to develop high quality hospitality environments, and today they own and manage more than 7,000 four-and five-star hotel rooms across Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel has been a celebrated symbol of Qatari hospitality for over 30 years, and the same can be said about the future Katara Towers in Lusail Marina District which will hopefully become a new hospitality landmark. In 2006, Katara Hospitality acquired the Renaissance Sharm El Sheikh Golden View Beach Resort in Egypt, and today the company’s property and development portfolio encompasses iconic hotels in many countries throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States.
