About the US Education Sector

Public education in the U.S. is managed by the Department of Education, which states the following as their goals:
• Establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, and distributing as well as monitoring those funds
• Collecting data on America's schools and disseminating research
• Focusing national attention on key educational issues
• Prohibiting discrimination and ensuring equal access to education

The U.S. education system is high quality, with many universities in the country dominating global rankings such as Harvard University, Princeton University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, all of which have produced cutting edge research. In addition, the U.S. has numerous world class and prestigious boarding schools like Phillips Exeter Academy, Deerfield Academy, and Phillips Academy (Andover). According to data from the Institute of International Education (IIE) Open Doors Report, the U.S. education system remains the top destination for international students.

There are plenty of opportunities for involvement with the U.S. education sector even from abroad, such as in Qatar’s Education City, for example, which historically housed numerous satellite campuses of highly respected U.S. universities including Cornell University’s Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (School of the Arts).
